As a parent, I already know that I have to modify how I teach her new skills and I was very excited to try “Shoe Tying Made Simple.” I played the song for her and she was singing it for a week straight! When we got the teaching sneaker, she looked at the instructions and started working on it by herself. I helped her a little with holding the laces once or twice and that was it! She got it within a few hours on her own. I absolutely loved watching her learn and talk to herself about the yellow and blue laces. The contrasting colors helped her know exactly where to put the laces every time. The Shoe-Tying rhyme worked like a charm! I am so proud of my son and he is proud of himself as well.

We used Kelly’s shoe-tying system to teach our three children and they all had fun learning to tie their shoes. The different colored laces made it easy for them to follow the instructions.

I couldn’t believe it! My 6 ½ year old son had gotten so frustrated with trying to tie his shoes that we quit! Then Kelly told me about her book. My youngest son is now on the last step and I know it will be a matter of days until he is tying his own shoes. My older son picked up the steps in just two days! They are both so proud of their accomplishments.

The Shoe Tying Made Simple approach made the chore of learning to tie shoes an easy and fun process. My six-year-old loved to look at the pictures and do it herself. The method of tying shoes that Kelly Wilk has introduced to us is far superior compared to the others we have tried. Our daughter is 15 years old and although developmentally disabled, is independent in all other areas of self-help skills. We have tried with the help of other Occupational Therapists, for several years to teach her how to tie her shoes, and she was just not able to get it. When Kelly started working with her she caught on right away and I was amazed. For the first time, I started to believe that she was going to be able to learn this skill. And then in less than 3 weeks she was able to tie her shoes and double knot them all by herself. Even though I knew she was going to learn, I could not believe that she had learned it so quickly.
